Suggestions for Making that First Online Move

Online dating is becoming more and more popular.  It is no longer as embarrassing for couples to admit that they actually met online.  However, for people hearing these stories about how others met online, they may wonder exactly how that came to be.  How did these two people, separated by distance and in a platform consisting of millions of other people, find each other in the sea of all that information?

Well, one of them had to make the first move, after finding a site that appealed to them.  This is not as difficult as it sounds and in most cases individuals are very happy to learn how to do this.  By talking to an individual online before meeting them in person, individuals are able to make sure that they can communicate, which is one of the most important, if not the most important, aspect of a healthy and loving relationship.  How many times have we left relationships for the simple reason that we did not talk to our partner and vice versa?

By making sure that you have something in common with someone else, before getting caught up in the physical chemistry, a couple can make sure that they are genuinely interested in each other, assuming that they both want to be in a serious relationship.  Going out to the bars and hitting on hotties is fine if you are just looking for some action.  But if you want more, you are likely going to have to take that first step.  Here’s how you can successfully accomplish this goal when you are talking to someone online instead of in person.

Sometimes, it will need to be determined beforehand if the individual is trying to or will consider approaching an individual online through email, instant messenger or on a dating website.  Many people feel that meeting an individual on a dating website is the easiest way to make the first move.  This is simply because many sites will offer the individual a chance to, essentially, flirt.  Instead of needing to send out a big, long note, many sites enable the person to simply send a small, generic not or comment that basically just says “I am interested in you”.  This is a great first move to make, because the individual does not necessarily need to make a big deal out of it and they do not need to put themselves out there very much.  If the other person is interested in getting to know the first person, they can let them know in a similar fashion.  From there, it can get more direct.

There are also many people that try to find an individual on the Internet and use the catchphrase “a/s/l” which is code for age/sex/location.  However, if you really want to make more of an impression on a person, it is important to consider asking something a little bit more in depth and personal.  This just helps to show the person on the other end that they are deep and real, and actually interested in the person they are talking to.  The same approach can be used in order to send an email to a person that an individual is trying to connect with online.

When an individual is aware of how they are going to be accessing the individual that they are interested in, they can figure out what they would like to do and how they would like to approach the person.  There are many ways for individuals to be contacted online and by deciding which method will be used, a person can begin to expand on their specific approach to this.
