Safety Tips for Meeting your Online Christian Date for the First Time
You have taken that first big step, starting an online relationship with someone. You might be proud of yourself for meeting another Christian online who feels like you do about the things that are important, and plus one that you’d like to spend some time with, offline. If you have decided that you want to meet your online Christian date for the first time, there are several safety tips that you should keep in mind, just in case.
Meeting someone online, Christian or not, can be very rewarding for people. It gives you a chance to talk to someone for along time, whenever it feels comfortable to you. You can write emails, exchange photos, and even start to talk on the phone. However, there is always going to be a point in time where you are going to decide that you want to meet your Christian date offline, face to face. When this happens, it is usually a fun and joyful occasion. You are finally going to get a chance to see if the chemistry that you have had on the computer is something that will transfer to real life, and you’ll get a chance to see how you feel with them right there, standing next to you.
In this world today, however, there are many people who take advantage of others. Even though you might have talked to this person and emailed them for so long that you feel you know them very well, they still might not be the person you think they are, and it might lead to trouble. No matter how well you think you know someone, it is always a good idea to keep some things in mind when you are meeting them face to face for the first time.
First of all, it is important that you pick a meeting place that you both know well, such as a restaurant or coffee shop. Keep your first meeting in the daytime, in a place that is well lit and full of people. Decide that you are going to have lunch or have coffee, because if you make the date short, and in the afternoon, there is less of a chance that you are going to find yourself in a situation that you don’t like. Meet somewhere that you both feel comfortable, and be sure that it is a place where there are other people.
When you walk in to the date, look around at your surroundings and be sure that you know where you are. Keep an eye out for where the exits are, and look for the people who work in the place in case you need to get help. Usually, if you are in a public place, no one is going to try anything, but you never know.
Another good safety tip to remember is that you should always call a friend and let them know where you are going, what time you are going to be there, and when you plan on getting home. If you feel very uncomfortable, you can ask them to come with you, or better yet, to wait in the car while you meet your date for the first time. Meeting a Christian date that you have met online shouldn’t make you any less careful when it comes to your safety. You should always tell someone where you are going and when you are coming back.
Another good safety tip for meeting your online Christian date off line for the first time is to arrange to have someone call you during the date. You should decide on a code word ahead of time, a way to let them know if you need them and if they should come to find you. If everything is all right when they call, everything will be fine and you know things are going well on your date.
